hello
my name is Brendan, and I live in the Auvergne France, but I am an Englishman.
I was lead here from another forum, and I like the thinking.
I'm a biker type, with a passion for 2cv's
my current ride may not qualify for the forum
it's my fourth 2cv, but the others have been 2cv6's
my new baby is a 1966 saloon
425cc and supposedly 18bhp
it was a non runner, and I've not yet driven it, so I have no idea how adequate or inadequate 18bhp is.
it however is not getting lowered
my plan for it, is to retro it, ripple bonnet, weld up the rear windows, small rear window, etc, and probably a 602cc (but I'd like to retain 6 volts),
unfortunately I missed suicide doors by two years, but i may retro fit them, at a later date, it's a future wish, not a priority. |

"sacrilege" is just bloody lovely, and if I achieve half of that I'll be happy. |

It's a very nice car, please keep it as it is...
Why don't you buy a 1950's model if you want one. This is a complete unmodified 1966 2 CV AZA, it's certainly not that common. + even if you modify it, it will still be obvious it's not a 1950's model.
Sorry if it sounds rude, but I just can't understand why people with nice car want to spoil them... _________________ www.super2cv.com |

the engine was the first point of assault, it fired up with minor fettling, but pissed oil out of the pushrod tubes, so both barrels were pulled off, and new seals fitted.
heads were stripped and cleaned whilst off, and the bores, pistons and rings were in superb order, I'm concerned about the amount of play in the big end, but now it's assembled and running, there's no sign of knock!!
but it has yet to be driven in anything but first and reverse, so time will tell.
new points and condensor fitted as a matter of course, and the carb had new seals fitted to the spindle.
and the play taken out with chemical metal, the carb was stripped and cleaned, then the spindle was smeared with vaseline, the oval hole was filled with glop (chemical metal) and the spindle inserted, then left to set overnight. (time will tell how long that bodge lasts!). |

I´m with Etienne. I really like this car as it is, but it´s yours. It is kind of between models. _________________ Pete |

LOL
this was the last place I expected to get told off for modifying??????
it's not so special, it's the base model, and no suicide doors or chrome trims (it even only has one sun visor).
it has floor mounted pedals, it's six volts, so nice pull cable starter, choke/heater buttons, a nice speedo, a lovely simple two spoke steel steering wheel and the front seat is a bench, which I like. (and after the next post, I've come back to edit, I'm disproportionately fond of the glass jar brake reservoir!)
but the body tub is pretty standard, six windows, normal doors, normal bonnet, apart from the dash, it could be a 2cv6.
NO!, I'm afraid it's going to get retro'd. what I really want is a fifties ripple four window, but they're out of my price range, so I purchased as old as I could afford, and then I'm going to reverse progress!
I've already purchased the ripple bonnet!!!, there's no going back now!!!!

or is that "it's all back from now"???
after the engine, I did the gaiters on the driveshafts, and then onto the brakes.
these were a proper headache the shoes were no problem, but the wheel cylinder seal kits were a farce, the suppliers weren't sure which ones to supply, cos of the year range, so I ordered both, and they were both bloody wrong, then I ordered the master cylinder seal kit,(for the year range), and that was also wrong, when I complained, it turns out they don't have the kit for mine!!!, just a master complete, I found a seal kit online, in Germany, but when trying to buy it(online), the postage kept coming up £20, so I phoned up Germany and bitched, £20, for an envelope with a few seals in? are you taking the piss?, but they wouldn't budge!!
so I cleaned everything as best as I could and reasembled with what I had, they work and don't leak, but the amount of bloody seals I bought, it should all be as new, and isn't
anyone need any seals , it'd cost me more to return them than they're worth |

although it (he) lives in the barn, I can't weld or grind in there, there's firewood and hay in there too,
so any welding has to be done outside on nice days
and there's lots and lots of it

Snail is not about modifying. It's a about style.
It's exactly because it's a simple model than it is interesting. And AZAs are much more rare than AZAMs nowadays... So yes it's special mostly because it's complete and untouched.
And I really think it looks great now. You could just channel it and it would be awesome.
But hey up to you anyway. _________________ www.super2cv.com |

on with the butchery
the chassis is surprisingly solid (well repairable anyway) for a 50 year old car.
the outriggers had disappeared completely, and there was some perforation below the bulkhead, I opened the floor pan up to check the ends of the X brace, and it had seperated, but it was still repairable
I also braced the top rails with angle iron (not pictured) where the chassis is prone to bending |

the bodyshell is another matter altogether, the front bulkhead had gone, and without the outriggers the body had sunk about five centimetres, if I grabbed the A post, I could lift the body off, making the pedals waggle
the bottom of the sills had gone completely too.
I chose to weld box section inside the sills, the top half was still good, and I wanted to keep some body rigidity as there was very very little stopping the body from bending.
gratuitous rust shots
I just like these photo's
