^It isn't problem to use turbo from diesel engine...

On AK-5 turbo, first there was IHI RHB31, and after some turbo breakdown and testing some others, he installed turbo from 1,4HDi engine. It is quite good for 652 petrol engine...

Just think about running RPM and engine size, then it is easier to understand why turbo from 2 x larger diesel is suitable...

Sebu, call or E-mail to me or Antti, if you have something to ask about. We maybe know something...

not sure, petrol turbo runs much hotter, but maybe there's no difference in turbo's for petrol and diesel.

Quite true, temperature before turbine is clearly lower on a Diesel engine, therefor Diesel turbos typically have a turbine housing made from a less temperature resistant material.
The IHI RHF3 turbo is basically a petrol turbo because the spec sheet says it can handle 950°C. So with a temperature sensor that shouldn't be a problem. The RHE61+ can handle max. 850°C and are purely for Diesel.

I think that Antti used Citroen C2 1.4HDI turbo and that is also IHI RHF3 so I think im good. I already talked to Antti about his turbo and the only problem I might have is the MOT.. I think its more easy just to do the MOT without the turbo and then install it back Very Happy. Im thinking about going "old school" and try a draw through setup its also cheap and thats good for me (Student budjet). I will be in contact if I have some problems :)

I have been running with a turbo from a Xsara Picasso 2.0 HDI (90hp) since 2008 and have not had any problems, beyond that it is a little too big.

As most of you know I had/have a turbo from a Smart, running on GPL and a Megasquirt cloon (KDFI).. In my eyes it was a perfect turbo for a 2cv. Generating boost from 2200 rpm.. In my eyes everything bigger then a Smart turbo is no good for a 2cv engine....

On daily bases I drove it with. 0.8 bar of boost. But it went well over 1.5 bar of boost (that's the highest my mapsensor goes) when disengage the wastegate....

It gave me about 65 hp... (standard 602) (never put it on a dyno) but with more then 1.5 bar of boost you can calculate the power...

At the moment I'm busy putting a 1200cc BMW bike-engine in it... 110 hp stock.. However I have major problems getting road approval here in Holland...

Without tuning it does 0-100 in under 9 seconds already with wheel spin in the first 3 gears when hitting the throttle...

How did you get past the annoying fact that the Smart turbo's exhaust housing is the same casting as the exhaust manifold..? I've got a 652 cc that I am rebuilding and going to build into an injected turbo in the future but finding the right turbo is kind of a pain. :)

I don't want to spend money and time building something that will only work at 5000 rpm and above and last one summer before a rebuild.

Mind you that if you are not prepared to risk something, just keep your finger off, risk is part of the deal.

For sure, but risks can be mitigated using quality parts. Also, I'm aiming for more "daily driver" functionality but with a turbo just for the fun of it...That's the idea.. :)
