Hi guys,
Been lurking on the forum for ages and finally joined today. I've done a lot of searching but not found what I want to know (probably searching for the wrong things). I'm looking at building a 2cv very similar to this one: (http://tinyurl.com/3mjs536).

I need to section the front (to lower the hood over the fenders) and to lower the whole car. I'm a little worried about hitting the hood on the engine. How much clearance is there between the hood and the engine on a stocker?

Thanks a lot,
Conor

Heya Plymouth,

What you want to do is called channeling, lot of cars on here have it done, if you channel the body 5cm, the height of the sills, there are no clearance issues on the hood.
Barbot Speciale is the thread you want for that style of car, lots of information there...

Lars car has good pics on channeling, as well as shifting the alternator, which is the first point of contact to the hood.

Also look at Jozef low Ami

And Acalex's lowest 2cvnofuckingairridehere

My Aussie Snail is also getting channeled...

Hope this helps!

Hi Harley,

Thanks for the reply. I've thought about channeling which sorts out lowering the ride height, but I also want to lower the hoodline relative to the back - I thought sectioning the A-pillar/firewall/cowl and trimming the hood would do this.

So basically it would be a floor channel the height of the sills and lowering the hood-line over the front wings, so the hood would be 50mm lower because of the channel + 50mmish because of the hood drop, so around 100mm lower hood.

Still playing with MS paint and a few drawings to see if I can get the proportions how I want - I like the trunk higher than the hood to give it that hot-rod rake.

Oh and one more thing - how driveable are the severely channelled cars? Do the wheels hit the wings? My project would be a daily driver and I don't want to pussy-foot around on the road, so this concerns me a little. What's the maximum channel do you reckon for a daily driver?

Maybe this image will help.

Cheers
