Yes.
Works perfect!
(Only costs a lot)
frank of http://www.duckservice.nl/ is used to do it, several cars a month.
Ask him about it.
And than after grinding cutting and welding, a dip in hot 'zink'...
and no rust again |

I saw that car and i know what jou mean, but its perfect for a heavy user
Big plates like doors also 'rimple'.
But by normal 2cv its perfect.
I know one car that drive's that way sans paint for 20 year's!
But zink is something else than remove paint (chemical).
And they know a lot about that! |

Hi Bjorn,
I just learned something (which in fact I already knew )
There's a movie on youtube ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZCFcxf5IBw ) where an Aussi guy is derusting panels from old cars. He uses 'melasse'.... Dont know what he means but I know by practice that 'cleaning vinegar' (oftewel schoonmaak azijn) does wonders.
Be aware to use a big plastic box and lots of vinegar because the metal must be underneath the surface. Don't do it in your bathtub, it won't survive!
The rust will turn black an can be brushed away with ease..... Clean the metal with sufficient water after you've done the process..... _________________ Imagination is more important than knowledge (Einstein) |

The Rustyco gel is really great if the bodypanel is too big.....
I'am intending to use Rustyco on some larger parts of the Barbot body.
The only drawback is that you have to clean the bodypart with water afterwards. Is not verry handy is you don't have water in the garage
Update 16-9-2010: Rustico is crap if you use it on verry rusted surfaces.... Switched to old fashioned brushing and sanding. After that I've used Brunox...... results are much better..... _________________ Imagination is more important than knowledge (Einstein) |

They are using mollases - this is a by product of sugar made from beet and is used as animal feed. It is sticky black and treacle-like.
It is also mildly acidic - I believe it contains phosphoric acid. Do a search on The HAMB (a hot rodding forum) for information on how to do it.
Works well but is slow and it stinks. It is "green" though and is easily disposed of after you have derusted your parts. |
